The party game built for the table.

Phone-light. Atmosphere over interface. Built for friends sitting across from each other, not staring down at a screen.

Watch a night unfold.

Ninety seconds of the launch reel. The room, the playbook, the moment a phone vibrates and somebody at the table goes pale.

What a Mystery Night is.

A Mystery Night is a multiplayer murder-mystery party game you host in person. Three to ten players, one phone per person, one host. The story unfolds over 90 to 120 minutes across an evening of food, drinks, and accusations.

Speakeater's Mystery Nights run on a Cloudflare Durable Object backend. The host opens a room, gets a four-letter code, and players join from their phones. Once everyone's in, screens go quiet and the table comes alive.

The design philosophy.

Phone-light, by design. Every other party game built for phones turns the night into a screen-staring contest. Mystery Nights does the opposite: the phone delivers short notification-grade text and atmospheric haptics, then it goes dark and you talk.

The five launch titles.

Five Mystery Nights ship with the launch, spaced across the first 90 days post-campaign. Each runs about 90 to 120 minutes and supports three to ten players. New titles ship roughly every two months after that.

Titles, character lists, and the playtest videos will be revealed across the Kickstarter campaign. Backers see them first.

Mystery Nights, common questions

How many players?

Three to ten per game. Most stories run best at six. Each player needs their own phone with the Speakeater app installed.

How long does a game take?

Plan on 90 to 120 minutes from "everyone joined" to final accusation. Some titles run shorter, some longer. The app tells you up front.

Do all players need to pay?

No. The host buys the Mystery Night once ($9, or $30 for the launch bundle). Players join the host's room from a free Speakeater install with a four-letter code. The free app handles everything on the player side — no purchase, no subscription.

Does it need internet?

Yes, all phones in the room need a network connection. The backend coordinates timing and secret-keeping across players. Offline mode is not on the roadmap for launch.

Can I replay the same Mystery Night?

Yes, but the surprise only lands once for the players who solved it. Most groups rotate which Mystery Night they play, and the catalog grows over time so there's always a new one. New titles are sold the same way — $9 each, one-time.

What about age ratings?

Mystery Nights are written for adult dinner parties. There's no graphic violence, but the stories deal with murder, motive, and adult dynamics. Use judgment for teenagers.

Can I commission a custom Mystery Night?

Yes, during the Kickstarter campaign. The $500 tier covers a one-of-one Mystery Night written for your group, your venue, or your event. Capped at 20 backers.
